Carl Cox (Oldham, 29 luglio 1962) è un disc jockey, producer e remixer di musica house e techno inglese.

Biografia

Carl Cox ha iniziato la sua vita musicale come dj di musica house a metà degli anni '80 e hardcore e acid house a inizio degli anni ‘90, usando anche come soprannome "Three Deck Wizard". Ha suonato nei clubs The Eclipse, Edge, Shelly's, Sterns Nightclub, Heaven, Angels e The Haçienda, così come per i rave Fantazia, Dreamscape e Amnesia. Ora possiede due etichette discografiche Intec Records e 23rd Century Records. Carl Cox e’ nato tra la musica e come tale e’ rimasta la sua unica e vera passione, infatti fin da piccolo i suoi genitori lo hanno abituato ad ascoltare i generi più diversi ed hanno assecondato le inclinazioni del figlio. Il suo biglietto di ingresso nella scena musicale avviene nel 1986, quando Carl Cox si trasferisce a Brighton e scopre quello che lui stesso definisce ‘the pure thrill of acid house.’‘Summer Of Love’ è considerato il suo primo successo e al Sunrise rave nel 1988 suona per la prima volta a tre piatti.Carl cox da quel giorno diventa il “Mago dei tre piatti” e da allora il suo telefono non ha più smesso di squillare. Di li è stato un susseguirsi di presenze agli eventi più prestigiosi, tanto che possiamo dire che Carl Cox ha contribuito in modo fondamentale alla storia della club culture inglese, perché lui nelle occasioni importanti c’era sempre. Ha suonato all’inaugurazione del leggendario Shoom di Danny Rampling, ha collaborato con Paul Oakenfold, è stato resident allo ZAP Club di Brighton.Dopo le soddisfazioni come dj, ecco arrivare i successi come producer. Nel 1992 con la Perfecto pubblica la sua prima hit ‘I Want You’, che entra direttamente al 23esimo posto dei Top of the Pops chart inglese! Il follow up, ‘Does It Feel Good To You’ è un successo, anche se è visto come progetto commerciale ed il cuore di Carl Cox è con l’house e la techno e per questo motivo non sceglie la carriera da popstar ma preferisce un ritorno alle origini. L’album FACT è techno ed ha venduto ad oggi circa 250.000 copie. Negli ultimi cinque anni Carl Cox si è dedicato ad un progetto diverso: Ultimate Music Management, che organizza club e tour, ma si occupa anche di trovare nuovi talenti, come Josh Abraham’s, Trevor Rockcliffe, Earl Gray e DJ Dan.Carl Cox ha suonato nei club dei luoghi più disparati: dal Sud Africa ad Israele, dalla Tasmania all’Asia. Ha recitato nel film dedicato ai club inglesi ‘Human Traffic’ ed è riuscito a trovare il tempo di aprire nuove etichette discografiche: la Ultimatum Breaks e la Intec per produzioni techno ed house di qualità.
